Work in progress: a painting!

So heres this new painting I'm working on. Still practicing drawing guys...so I thought, Id so a face study-- and I'll just turn it into a full out painting. It'll take some time, since I'm doing so many crazy details, but thats what I wanted to go for. My first digial painting in almost a year...So I really wanna impress myself. Here are some of my progress work so far.

The hair wasnt done, but I figured I didnt really wanna finish it, cuz I thought a hat would look alot cooler.... This is inspired by Sean opry. Hes some model who has really strong features, so I drew him again (also below). However, its not supposed to be a replica of HIM, I added my own touches and other bits and pieces of other people. I'll be sure to update. :) Hope you like it so far.

Comments and suggestions for a background/setting etc are more than welcome...! Thanks!

Looking good Abz. Watch out for the sizing of the eyes, the right seems way bigger than the left.

Thanks for the comment!

Hi Abz,
it's really interesting you've place the different steps of your work. The colour of the skin is worm and attractive, maybe for the background you should use cooler tones to focuses on the boy.
Anyway, really nice blog.
And many thanks for your comments.

Hey friend!
Thanks a lot for the words you left in my blog....you're very kind!

As for my technique when it comes to digital photo collages, it's very simple really... I use photoshop to do almost all of my illustration stuff (sometimes I use illustrator and freehand to do vector work). I take a lot of photos myself, and I also use many images that I take from the web. Sometimes I scan photos from magazines and newspapers. The trick is to manipulate the images a LOT ('till the point they are irrecognizable) so that you wont have trouble with copyrights. I paint over the images with photoshop arbrushes, add a lot of overlayed textures so I can get that dirty, groovy/grundge effect.
Once you cut off the background of the images you want to work with, it's all about composition, taking advantage of the canvas line forces, so you can obtain a very dynamic form, then you work a lot on color and textures. I also like to mix photos with drawings and painting....I always write something over the images with the Wacom tablet as well.
Not that hard really! he he

* My English skills are a little rusty, so please forgive me if this is not very clear...

I wanted to thank you for the thoughtful and kind message you left for me earlier this summer. Thank you for the prayers. They brought me comfort and strength.
